They're called FUDGE DREAM BARS in our family. We frost them....the usual chocolate powder sugar type.....and put it on the bars in dollops right out of the oven. As the frosting starts to "melt"....spread it and THEN cool, cut and eat. SOOOOO good!!

Hi! I loved the consistency of the brownies! Very moist! But the recipe says to use 1-1/2 tsp of vanilla. Do you mean vanilla extract or vanilla bean? All I could taste was the vanilla extract. Please help! I want to try making them again! :)

I love this recipe! I can barely stop eating the batter when I make it! I actually used this recipe to make a chocolate brownie cake for my wedding dessert bar. I took two round cake pans to make a two layer cake and doubled the recipe. Then I frosted it with chocolate frosting and put chocolate chips on top. It was amazing!

FAQs

What happens if you use milk instead of water in brownie mix? ›

One change is to use milk or heavy cream instead of water. This change will make brownies more moist and gooey since milk is more fatty and flavorful than water. A second change is to use butter instead of oil. For similar reasons to using milk, butter adds a rich and more decadent quality to the batter.

How do you make brownies better? ›

Vanilla extract – Pure vanilla extract adds rich flavor to brownies. Eggs – Most brownie mixes call for one whole egg. Adding one large egg plus an extra egg yolk gives brownies an ultra fudgy texture. Chocolate Chips – Even if your brownie mix contains chocolate, plan to add chocolate chips.

Can I use butter instead of oil in brownie mix? ›

You can absolutely substitute butter for the vegetable oil. Use the same quantity specified in the directions (for example, if it calls for 1/3 cup of oil, use 5 1/3 tablespoons of butter). Melt it down, then let it cool a bit. You might not ever go back to oil!

Can you add milk to brownie batter? ›

Milk. Most brownie mixes call for water. While water does the job, you can add some extra flavor and moisture by mixing some of that water with something richer, like milk. If you want to swap it out completely, be prepared for a more chewy and fudge-like brownie from the extra fat.

What does adding an extra egg to brownie mix do? ›

If you opt to add more eggs, say double the amount, something interesting happens. Even though you are adding more moisture, the air bubbles that you catch in the extra eggs add volume, which decreases the density of your final product. This makes your brownies rise and gives them a much more cake-like texture.

What can I add to brownie mix to make it better? ›

Add a teaspoon of instant coffee or espresso powder. Throw in a handful of nuts—pecans, walnuts, macadamia, whatever you have on hand. Scoop in a palmful of dried or frozen fruit. Add an extra splash of the top-shelf vanilla extract, or a dab of vanilla paste, or a dash of vanilla powder, to the batter.

How do you make brownies more fudgy than cakey? ›

Everyone loves brownies, but some like these chocolaty squares rich and dense, while others prefer a taller treat. What does a baker need to do to have their brownies turn out just as they want them? Fudgy brownies have a higher fat-to-flour ratio than cakey ones. So add more fat—in this case, butter and chocolate.

What keeps brownies moist? ›

Brownies should be wrapped tightly in plastic wrap, and placed in an airtight container to help keep them from drying out and going stale. (You can also use a layer of aluminum foil around the layer of plastic wrap to help protect them from air exposure.)

How do you doctor up brownie mix? ›

Add Salt. If you've ever found boxed brownies to be too sweet for your taste, stir a pinch of salt into the batter before baking. This'll help bring out the deeper chocolate flavors. You can even try sprinkling some flaky sea salt on top of the brownies as soon as they come out of the oven.

What does olive oil do to brownies? ›

It makes them richer, adds a fudge-like texture, and enhances the flavor of the chocolate. In addition, it's an incredible preservative, so the brownies stay moist for longer! Olive oil has been gaining popularity in recent years as a substitute for butter and other vegetable oils in baked goods.

What oil is best for brownies? ›

Most brownie recipes call for some kind of oil — usually vegetable oil or canola oil. This oil acts as the primary fat in brownie batter, giving it that delicious, fudgy texture we all know and love.

Can I use heavy whipping cream instead of milk for brownies? ›

Yes, you can often substitute heavy whipping cream for milk or half-and-half in baking recipes. Keep in mind that heavy cream has a higher fat content, so it might result in a richer texture and flavor. Adjustments may be needed based on your preference and the specific recipe.

Can I use olive oil instead of vegetable oil for brownies? ›

Using olive oil does make for a fudgier brownie since this oil is a little heavier than vegetable oil. You might want to use a less flavorful olive oil as well. Extra virgin olive oil tends to give your brownies a bit of an olive oil aftertaste.

How to jazz up brownies? ›

Give your brownies some extra flavor by adding chopped candy bars to the mix. Whether it's peanut butter cups, peppermint patties, or nutty chocolate bars, adding your leftover Halloween candy (or whatever holiday candy you have laying around) will make your brownies over-the-top good.

What happens if you bake with milk instead of water? ›

Milk's fat and protein add tenderness, structure, and flavor to a cake — all great attributes you want in your baking!

What happens if you substitute milk for water in a cake mix? ›

Baking tip #2: adding milk to your box cake mix in place of water adds a dense texture to your dessert leaving it moist and flavorful like a homemade cake. Or, if you prefer, you can add buttermilk, giving your cake a tangy flavor to balance out the sweetness.

What happens if I substitute milk for water in a cake recipe? ›

Yes, you can substitute milk for water when preparing SuperMoist cake mixes, however, the cake may be slightly drier than if prepared with water. Also keep in mind that milk will add calories and change the nutrition slightly.
