Mom Quotes: Wise Words from Moms about Motherhood | Hallmark Ideas & Inspiration (1)

By Hallmark staff on May 2, 2017

As moms, the most helpful advice we get comes from two sources: our moms and friend-moms. They are the wise women who went before us and emerged from motherhood (mostly) unscathed. In honor of Mother’s Day, we have asked our creative moms what they wish their younger selves knew. And they shared their wisdom with the mom quotes below.

MOM WISDOM: REASSURING WORDS

Mom Quotes: Wise Words from Moms about Motherhood | Hallmark Ideas & Inspiration (2)

Half of the stuff you’re worried about now won’t matter. I promise.
—Cat

Don’t let those online baby milestones freak you out. Who are those kids, anyway?
—Meghan

No one ever took their paci to college.
—Meghan

There is no “normal.”
—Meghan

MOM WISDOM: SLEEP ADVICE

I know it seems impossible to sleep when the baby sleeps, but good God, please try.
—Meghan

Just get sleep. By any means possible.
—Cat

Those little gowns with elastic bottoms are lifesavers when you have a newborn. Having to align 17 sleeper snaps in the dark at 3 a.m. is the devil’s work.
—Amy

MOM-WISDOM: COPING SKILLS

Mom Quotes: Wise Words from Moms about Motherhood | Hallmark Ideas & Inspiration (3)

Forget about dry-clean-only.
—Emily

Wine night with the girls is an essential survival tool.
—Meghan

Keep a Ziploc bag in your car at all times that contains a few wipes, extra socks and underwear and a change of clothes. This has come in handy SO many times for our family, including one time that involved a poop and park swings.
—Amy

If you brushed your teeth today, you’re doing ok.
—Meghan

MOM WISDOM: YOU DO YOU

Mom Quotes: Wise Words from Moms about Motherhood | Hallmark Ideas & Inspiration (4)

Kids are awesome little weirdoes. Let them be that way.
—Meghan

When potty training, bribery is key.
No shame in my M&M-rewarding game.
—Amy

Just do what’s right for your family. And lead with love.
—Cat

I was a heavy researcher before my daughter was born. I read ALL the books, listened to the experts, queried my doctor constantly. So…I thought I was ready when she came.

Oh boy. When she was about three months old colic set in. Every day from three o’clock to six o’clock, she’d howl. HOWL. One day, I just couldn’t deal anymore. I’d tried EVERYTHING the damn books said about colic. Crying myself, I picked up the phone and called my mom. She was sympathetic as I told her all about the book I’d read and how nothing was working. She stopped my tears with this question: “Well, has the baby read the book?” Then laughing she said, “Put down the book and read the baby.” LOL!

So my words of wisdom are that each child is different. None of them have read the books, listened to the experts, or signed a contract to do it like any other baby. Read your baby. You’ll be fine.
—Melvina
