Help Omeluum Investigate the Parasite Walkthrough

In order to get the quest Help Omeluum Investigate the Parasite, you'll need to pick the Underdark route to get to Moonrise Towers.

The Myconid Colony can be found north of the Selûnite Outpost, which is the location you end up in when you first enter the Underdark. The easiest way to gain access to it is by finding Ebonlake Grotto. The location for Ebonlake Grotto can be seen on the map below.

Essentially, you need to head north following the path until you reach the Decrepit Village, then climb up the nearby rocks until you see giant mushrooms.

When you approach the Myconid Colony for the first time, you will be stopped and asked to state your purpose by the Sovereign of the Colony.

Once you've convinced the Sovereign you mean no harm, they will want to speak to you. Follow the quest marker deep into the Grotto.

There's a useful vendor here called Derryth Bonecloak who's worth speaking to. Along with a variety of interesting wares, she offers a Side Quest.

You'll get the Underdark - Myconid Colony Waypoint here, which is useful.

You can find the leader of the Colony in the center of the camp, at the highest point in the mushrooms. They're called Sovereign Spaw, and they will give you a quest called Defeat the Duregar Invaders.

This is a useful quest to finish up, but it's not the reason we're here.

Head down from this ledge and locate a Hobgoblin trader called Blurg. His stall is very close to where Sovereign Spaw is.

Speaking to Blurg will kickstart the events that trigger the Omeluum questline.

Telling Omeluum About the Parasite

Blurg will greet you verbally, then greet you psychically in the same way the Myconid do before remarking that your brain is infinitely more complex than theirs.

He'll also reference the Society of Brilliance, which you should enquire about.

The conversation will progress, and you'll need to tell Blurg about the parasite. Tell him the whole story- you can trust him and it's important for the quest.

He will note that one of his colleagues from the Society of Brilliance, Omeluum, could possibly help with your issue. Blurg will summon Omeluum.

Omeluum will appear instantly. If you have Lae'zel in your party, she will not be happy about this.

Hear Omeluum out and explain what's happening, then agree to have them examine you. Have your character relax and allow Omeluum access to their mind.

Omeluum will be intrigued, noting that the parasite appears to be shielded with some sort of magic which is what's preventing you from turning into a Mind Flayer.

He will inform you that he cannot perform an extraction- but that he knows of some alchemical remedies which could aid with the issue. Burg will be intrigued by this.

You'll need a fresh Tongue of Madness and some Tinmask spores. These are both obtainable in the Underdark, and Blurg will note that Lenore (a Cleric who serves Mystra) is likely to have them in her possession.

Lenore's tower can be found to the southwest. Although, her tower apparently has a tendency to move. The Arcane Tower will now be visible on your map.

Heal up if necessary, utilize the resources like vendors in the Colony, then leave the camp.

The location will show up on your map, but there will not be an automatic quest marker. You can place a custom marker to make navigation easier.

Start heading southwest to continue with the quest.

The Arcane Tower

Heading southwest to the Arcane Tower will take you through the Decrepit Village.

As you pass through, you'll pick up the Underdark - Beach Waypoint.

Be mindful of the wildlife and fauna as you travel. When you come across Torchstalks (the big orange mushrooms shown below) you'll need to clear them out from a safe distance with things like fire spells.

Keep heading towards the marker.

As you continue, you'll go through a large stone archway. It's a good idea to save here, as there's a tricky puzzle coming up which can wipe your party if you're not careful.

When you're through the archway, you'll be put into turn-based mode automatically. This is because Arcane Turrets (which are the guards for the Arcane Tower, meaning you're in the right place) are targeting you and you'll need to avoid them while trying to go inside.

You can tell when you're being targeted as a thin blue line will follow your chosen character. The Arcane Turrets can only target one character at a time, but they're utterly lethal.

There are a few ways to deal with these Turrets:

  1. You can simply avoid them by using the natural cover and movement based abilities
  2. You can attack them with lightning spells or arrows (do this from a distance)
  3. You can take them out with Sussur Blooms (flowers that essentially turn off magic sources)

It's entirely possible to get through this without needing extra items, but you can obtain Sussur Blooms by exploring the Sussur Tree area to the north of the Arcane Tower. Be careful if you opt for this, as there are poisonous gas clouds to contend with.

Once a party member gets to the door of the Arcane Tower, they'll need to lockpick it or use a spell to get inside.

It's not over once you get inside, though. There are other Arcane Turrets to contend with.

There is an elevator in the room, but don't bother trying to use it yet as it's not working. Right now, your main aim is to get through the door to the south in the main tower.

Once you're through the door, close it behind you. The Arcane Turrets might be powerful, but they can't shoot through doors.

There are large blue mushrooms near the balcony, which you'll need to jump onto in order to reach the lower level of the tower. Position yourself careful- it's possible to do this without taking any fall damage, but misjudging the distance can be quite dangerous.

Make sure your entire party is on the lower level before turning turn-based mode off. As we found during our playthrough, your party members on the top floor will attempt to use the elevator in order to join party members on the bottom floor.

When you're all on the lower level, switch off turn-based mode and heal up if necessary.

You can find Tinmask spores on the shelves towards the back of the lower level. This is one of the items that Omeluum wants for the potential parasite cure.

The other item can be found very close by.

The Tongues of Madness are growing in a planter on the other side of the room. You can pick the mushrooms like any other harvestable item in the game.

Once you've found these items, you can simply fast travel back to the Myconid Colony Waypoint to speak to Omeluum again.

It's worth having a look around before you leave, though, as there are some camp supplies, weapons, potions and other useful items that can be found on the different levels of the Arcane Tower. Be careful of the Arcane Turrets if you didn't turn them off or destroy them, though.

Speaking to Omeluum

When you're back at the Myconid Colony, head back to Blurg and Omeluum.

It's worth saving before you speak to Omeluum as there's an important throw coming up.

When you speak to Omeluum, give them the mushrooms. They'll immediately brew a potion and inform your character that they must drink all of it. Omeluum will warn that the potion may affect your character's inhibitions and cause them to act irrationally.

There will now be two saving throws to fight against the influence of the parasite and the potion. You will be given options relating to your strengths, race and class. For example, we had Shadowheart speaking to Omeluum and she did a Cleric-specific saving throw.

After the second saving throw, something seems to startle Omeluum.

Unfortunately, Omeluum has done exactly the opposite of what they promised to do. The parasite is now stronger, imbued with the potion's power.

Omeluum apologizes and mentions that they have a powerful Ring of Mind-Shielding which may help to protect the wearer from the parasite's influence. They don't want to give it up for free though, so you'll need to offer something valuable.

We chose to provide a detailed, logical explanation of what happened on the Nautiloid. There is the option to dramatize the events, but Omeluum's character skews towards the logical approach.

When Omeluum is happy with the bargain or payment, they will give you the ring.

Unfortunately, this is another dead end in the parasite cure hunt. The Mind-Shielding Ring is an absolute treasure, though, and it can come in very handy during battles.

For now, you'll need to keep exploring the Underdark and searching for a way to get to Moonrise Towers in order to remove the parasite from your head. Keep following the Underdark Moonrise Towers route but keep an eye out for Side Quests and treasure along the way.
