Easy Holiday Fudge

I always get so excited to enjoy eggnog during Christmas time. It also makes a great addition to so many recipes, like this homemade fudge, eggnog cookies, eggnog pie and eggnog French toast.

If there’s one thing that screams Christmas time, it’s fudge! I love to make a few different fudge recipes during the holiday season like my 3-ingredient fudge, peanut butter chocolate fudge or snickerdoodle fudge and of course this eggnog fudge is always included. It’s perfectly creamy, chocolaty and has amazing eggnog flavor.

The best part about this recipe is that it’s super easy to whip up and comes together in about 30 minutes along with this peppermint bark. Then just place it in the fridge or freezer and you’ll have the perfect sweet treat on hand to enjoy whenever you need a little pick me up. :)

It also makes a great edible gift and is always a hit with anyone that tries it. Just wrap the fudge in cellophane and add a cute Christmas tag. Gifts from the kitchen are always the best!

Ingredients

  • Sugar: I use granulated sugar
  • Butter: I used salted. If you use unsalted, then add a pinch of salt.
  • Eggnog: My favorite brand is Darigold.
  • White baking chocolate: I love to use Ghiradelli.
  • Ground nutmeg: this add the perfect flavor.
  • Marshmallow creme: this creme will make the fudge nice and creamy.
  • Vanilla extract: I like to use pure vanilla extract for great flavor.

How to Make Eggnog Fudge

Step 1: Boil the Sugar, Butter and Eggnog

In a medium saucepan over medium-heat, bring the sugar, butter and eggnog to a full boil. Continue to let boil until a candy thermometer reaches 234°F. Remember to stir the mixture constantly the whole time to prevent scorching.

Step 2: Add Remaining Ingredients

Remove from heat and add in the white chocolate and nutmeg, stirring until the chocolate is melted. Then immediately stir in the marshmallow creme and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer until well blended.

Step 3: Pour in Dish and Refrigerate

Pour the mixture into a buttered or parchment-lined 8×8″ pan and sprinkle extra nutmeg on top. Place in refrigerator until cool, then cut into squares.

Do you think almond milk eggnog would work in this recipe?

I haven’t tried, but I’m afraid it wouldn’t have enough fat to hold the shape.

FAQs

How long will eggnog last in the refrigerator? ›

The Food and Drug Administration suggests consuming commercial eggnog within three to five days of opening a carton, and you should drink homemade eggnog within two to four days of making.

Can you put fudge in the freezer? ›

Freezing Fudge

Wrap your fudge in an air-tight container. Several layers of saran wrap, vacuum seal, Tupperware should all keep the moisture locked in pretty good. A couple hours before you would like to enjoy your fudge, take it out of the freezer and allow it to thaw out on your counter. ENJOY!

How do you know when eggnog has gone bad? ›

We've all probably smelled spoiled milk before — if your eggnog smells like that, it's no bueno. A sour aroma is a sign that the lactic acid bacteria in the milk and cream have spoiled. Trust your nose; if it smells like spoiled milk, it probably is.

Does eggnog get better with age? ›

They found, unanimously, that aged nog was mellower and smoother than fresh nog. Similarly, Alton Brown says that "the longer the nog ages, the more mellow it will get." In The Art of Eating, Holly Jennings found three-week nog to be "rounder, smoother, and noticeably more complex."

Why should you not refrigerate fudge? ›

So to recap, it's best to store proper fudge at room temperature. Keeping it in the fridge takes out all its moisture, drying it out. Homemade fudge is best in the fridge. No matter where you store it, the goal is to protect the fudge from exposure to the elements so airtight containers are best!

How to tell if fudge is bad? ›

If fudge experiences a change in temperature, it can melt or develop a slimy texture on the surface. If it is exposed to air, it can dry out and become hard. Specific add-ins to fudge have the potential to grow mold or give off a bad odor, and at that point, the fudge should be avoided.

Is it better to freeze or refrigerate fudge? ›

Fudge should be stored in a dry, dark, and cool area away from direct sunlight, like a cupboard or pantry, and not on your kitchen counter. If you need to store your fudge for much longer, freezing is a great option.

How long does it take for alcoholic eggnog to go bad? ›

Unopened bottled eggnog with alcohol: Unopened, shelf-stable bottled eggnog that contains alcohol can last up to 18 months without refrigeration [1].

How long is aged eggnog good for? ›

Can Eggnog Be Aged? Yes, when the alcohol content is 20% of the egg and sugar mixture, it becomes sterile and can sit in cool storage on a shelf for up to a year. Usually, I use the egg base and make my eggnog before the three-week mark (you can make it up to a year in advance!).

How long can you keep opened eggnog with alcohol? ›

Adding the alcohol immediately reduced the number of bacteria, but there were still plenty left. After a week there were still quite a few, but after three weeks the eggnog was completely sterile. The ratio of alcohol to other ingredients matters for sterilization, of course.

How to preserve egg nog? ›

Carefully pour the egg nog into clean mason jars, swing-top bottles, or even the leftover liquor bottles and store them in the refrigerator. You can bottle your nog in leftover liquor bottles, swing-tops, or mason jars. You can even print your own labels! It makes a great gift.
