Grooming and shaping brows are a major part of many people's beauty routines, which is why having a good pair of tweezers is so important. The right tweezers not only help precisely pluck your brows, but they can also make the process a lot less painful than other hair removal methods. "Sometimes, with threading or waxing, the hair can break and cause painful ingrowns," eyebrow expert Joey Healy says. "But with tweezing, you pull each hair one at a time in the direction of the hair growth so that it doesn't break or turn and grow back into the skin."
With that in mind, we set out to find the best tweezers available. To do so, we tasked a handful of reviewers with researching and testing the most popular tools to see which ones make grooming your eyebrows a breeze. After thoroughly putting 18 top-rated tweezers to the test—accounting for ease of use, grip, and overall performance of each—we determined the top five best pairs of the bunch. Find the full list of the best tweezers, according to InStyle testers, below.
Our Top Picks

Best Point:
What We Love
The sharp pointed tips grab the finest hairs with ease.
What We Don't Love
They could be too tiny for some hands.
The surgical steel tips of these pointed tweezers are hand-filed and aligned so that they close evenly, ensuring that each hair is removed from the root. "I didn't need to use any force or pressure to pluck tiny hairs," our tester says. They don't just remove hairs with ease, though. These tweezers are also great for extracting splinters, thorns and shards of glass.
One thing the tester called out is the size of the tweezers. "I personally love this pair because I have smaller hands, but if you have bigger hands these tweezers might be hard to use," they share.
Material: Stainless steel | Tip shape: Pointed | Features: Hand-filed tips
What We Love
The built-in brush creates a full brow-grooming experience.
What We Don't Love
They aren't the most precise, as they pluck several hairs at a time.
For a one-stop shop for all things brow grooming, these tweezers by Benefit are a great pick. They have slanted-tip pincers on one end and a small brush on the other to help shape and style brows with one tool. Brush your brows upward before plucking so you can see where you need to tweeze, and then again after to position brows into place.
"The entire tool feels strong—I don't feel the need to grip or pull the hairs too hard," our tester explains. The durability is in part to a coating of diamond dust (yes, really) which also helps remove barely there hairs sans pain.
One downfall is that these tweezers aren't great at grabbing individual hairs, but rather pull multiple hairs at a time—which makes them better for plucking a large area of hair, such as in between eyebrows.
Material: Diamond dust-coated stainless steel | Tip shape: Slanted | Features: Grooming brush
What We Love
You can grasp each individual hair with ease thanks to the slanted tip.
What We Don't Love
At $28, they're a bit pricey for tweezers.
Anastasia Soare is the woman behind the brows of Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, and Amal Clooney, so you can rest assured that these tweezers from her eponymous brand are top of the line. They boast a custom slanted tip that never has to be sharpened, and a calibrated tension that helps grasp even the smallest hairs.
These smart details scored high among testers. "The tweezers look sleek but feel very sturdy," our reviewer notes. "Plus, they're the perfect size, even in my small hands."
Our reviewer also raved about the tool's efficiency, especially when it came to thin hairs that are difficult to grasp, like in the lower arch of the brows. "I was able to grip onto hairs with just one try," she explains.
Overall, the tweezers' stainless steel tip was a favorite feature because it made eyebrow grooming a tension-free process. "It actually felt nice on my skin," our reviewer says.
Material: Stainless steel | Tip shape: Slant | Features: Protective tip cover
What We Love
It's designed with a wide finger grip to prevent cramping.
What We Don't Love
The size of the tweezers makes it a bit difficult to grab tiny hairs.
These slant tweezers from Coco's prove you don't have to spend a ton of money on a quality pair. Not only are they the most affordable option on this list, they also received rave reviews from our tester, especially when it came to comfort.
The tweezers have a wide finger grip, which keeps your digits comfortable while plucking. "This type of grip could prevent finger cramping during longer tweezing sessions," she explains. The stainless steel material is also durable yet lightweight to eliminate any tension while pulling stray hairs.
The grip itself comes in a variety of bright colors, making the tweezers easy to find in a fully stocked makeup bag or cluttered medicine cabinet. A travel pouch is also included to keep the tip from dulling and prevent injury.
One thing our reviewer wishes she could improve is the precision of the tip. "Because the grip is wider, the tweezers themselves are a bit bigger, which makes it harder to grab tiny hairs," she says. Despite the size, she notes that the tweezers extracted her hairs quickly and painlessly.
Material: Stainless steel | Tip shape: Slant tip | Features: Travel pouch
What We Love
The miniature set of three fits perfectly in your carry-on.
What We Don't Love
Their compact size makes them difficult to use if you have larger hands.
Looking for high-quality tweezers that are perfect for travel? Check out this set from Tweezerman. The trio comes with miniature slanted-tip, pointed-tip, and flat-tip tweezers, as well as a leather carrying case that is compact enough to fit inside toiletry bags and carry-ons. "I'd recommend these tweezers in a heartbeat, especially for travel since they're so small," our tester says. "The set also comes in a chic rose gold carrying case with a magnetic closure."
Not only is the set excellent for tweezing on-the-go, each pair is also durable enough for daily use. Made with high-quality stainless steel, all three tweezers work in just about any situation. "These are effective on all hair—short, long, thick, and thin," the tester explains. "The tips feel sharp but don't hurt, which is a winning combination."

Other Options You Might Like
Rubis Switzerland Classic Elegance Tweezers
Don’t be alarmed if seeing these tweezers makes you weirdly hungry, as the hole pattern of the design is meant to represent Swiss cheese! This tool doesn’t just look unique, either—its slanted tip allows you to readily grip even the smallest hairs. And with similar styles available in gold and red-gold, there are plenty of options to choose from for a little extra sparkle in your makeup bag.
We also love that every pair of tweezers from this brand are handmade, but keep in mind that makes them extra delicate, so be careful when handling.
Zwilling Beauty Twinox Slant Tweezer
These gold tweezers may look expensive, but luckily this isn’t the case. The Zwilling Beauty Twinox Slant Tweezer is not only engineered to cleanly pluck brow hair—it’s also designed to remove splinters as neatly as possible. We especially love that the PVD coating is scratch resistant (a.k.a., won’t get too banged up when it jostles in our makeup bags). The thick handle also provides an ergonomic hold, assuring your fingers won’t get tired or sore when using them.
We do wish the product came with covers to protect the tips, but we like them so much we’ll just be careful when storing.
What to Keep in Mind
- Tip Shape: Each tip shape serves different purposes. Pointed tips are the most precise and are especially helpful in removing hair stubble, ingrown hairs or splinters. Because of the fine tip, these types of tweezers generally provide more control when plucking. Slanted tips, on the other hand, offer more flexibility in plucking stray hairs. According to Healy, these types of tips are great for grooming eyebrows. No matter what tip shade you choose, Healy recommends looking for a pair that has good "bounce back"—a term Healy made up for tweezers with a bit of resistance, but still close all the way. We've all tried tweezers that were difficult to open and close and it made tweezing even more of a pain.
- Size and Material: When shopping for tweezers, you'll also want to factor in size and material. "You want to find a tweezer that feels comfortable in your hand," Healy says. "For me, I prefer full-length tweezers versus short mini ones. In addition to a variety of lengths, tweezers also come with both wide and narrow grip options for your fingers and thumb to rest on while plucking. Lastly, look for a pair made of stainless steel. This material won't rust, is easy to clean, and is the most hygienic option.
- Extra Features: Tweezer tips can be sharp, so it's important to protect yourself from being poked when searching for them in your kit. Consider looking for options that come with protective covers, which are designed to fit over the sharp point of the tweezers to prevent injury and ensure that the tips don't become dull after repeated contact with other tools in your stash. "Tweezers won't dull because of your skin," Healy says. "What will dull them is dropping them on the floor, throwing them in a cosmetics bag, or putting them in a drawer where they bounce around and hit other things."
Your Questions, Answered
What are tweezers used for?
Tweezers are primarily used for grooming eyebrows and removing stray facial hairs. They can also be used to remove splinters, thorns, and glass from the skin.
Are tweezers good for hair removal?
Tweezers are good for hair removal because they pull the full hair from the root and the bulb from the follicle. Still, because tweezing involves plucking small hairs one by one, it can be tedious and only practical for limited areas like the eyebrows, chin, and nose, or to clean up stray hairs where another removal technique has been used.
How do you use tweezers for hair removal?
Before starting, make sure your hair, skin, and tweezers are clean and dry. To remove hair with tweezers, it's recommended that you use a mirror in bright lighting. "Hold the tweezers in your dominant hand and a brush or spoolie in your other hand," Healy explains. "Then, comb through the brows and use the tweezer to pull individual hairs, one by one." The best lighting for tweezing, believe it or not, is often your car in the daylight. So let's not judge if we see someone parked plucking their eyebrows—they're onto something.
How do you reduce pain while plucking eyebrows?
According to Healy, tweezing can be a little painful—especially in the winter if your skin is dry, or during that time of the month. "It's less painful to pluck after the shower, when your brows will be a bit more pliable and softer, making it less painful to tweeze," he says. Using counter-pressure can be helpful, too. "If you pluck a hair, try putting your finger on it right away—it can help take away the sting," he shares.
